What is an Aqua Lung?

What is an Aqualung? The Aqua-Lung is an open circuit, self-contained breathing device. Aqua-Lungs were the first self-contained, commercially viable breathing apparatus. This equipment is sometimes called a twin-hose regulator or demand valve. Aqua-lungs were first used by Emile Gagnan and Jacques Cousteau. They quickly became a hit in the diving world.

Jacques Cousteau

Jacques Cousteau developed the first self-contained open-circuit underwater respirator in the 1940s. Cousteau was inspired by a demand-valve system that provided compressed oxygen to divers when they breathe underwater. The Aqua-Lung is the name of the device that opened the sport to everyone who had an interest. Aqua-Lung by Cousteau became the standard for divers around the world.

Emile Gagnan

Emile Gagnan (Jacques-Yves Cousteau) and Emile Gagnan (Emil Gagnen) invented the Aqua lung in the 1940s. Its original design derives from earlier designs of diving helmets that were made in the 19th Century. It allows underwater divers breathe through a mouthpiece which releases compressed air when activated by their breath. Gagnan further refined the regulator valve to allow for automatic air supply to the diver's lips. The amount of breath taken by the diver is then proportional to compressed air. This device was a breakthrough in the diving industry, allowing people to explore ocean depths for scientific observation, military use, and recreational purposes.

The first open-circuit demand controller

Cousteau designed the Aqua lung in 1944. He also patented it in 1946. The Aqua-Lung scuba regulator has been a hit since its inception. Gagnan, Cousteau's father-in-law, and his colleague Emile Gagnan, a French chemist, were also part of the team. They all knew Cousteau was researching and decided to team up and create AquaLung regulator.

The BC1

The BC1 Aqua Lung is an advanced back inflation BC for advanced commercial, military, and public safety divers. Its rugged design offers unparalleled comfort, fit, as well as stability. The user manual includes details about the weights that can be inserted into each pouch. The BC1 is available in two different weight capacities, one for the chest and one for the back. You can customize the BC1 to meet your individual needs by purchasing weight pouches.

The Titan

Aqua Lung Titan regulators are lightweight and very portable. Its lightweight design allows for easy use. A soft polyurethane wrap provides a snug fit. The lightweight and sturdy design make it easy to handle during an extended dive. It is affordable because of its moderate price. The device includes two stages, one of which prevents unwanted freeflow.

The Mentor

Aqua lung Mentor was developed in partnership with the United States Navy. It is a regulator that replaces older double hoses that were used to train divers to rebreather. Although not yet on sale, the Aqua lung is a great choice for professional divers seeking an alternative to double hose regulators. Here are some things to keep in mind when buying the Aqua lung Mentor. You must first calibrate it.
