Champaign's University of Illinois Ice Arena, also called the Big Pond is an ice rink. It is managed by the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. It hosts many events, including ice hockey.

Opportunities for skating
The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign offers an open-air ice arena. There are several steps that you can take to host an event at the rink for groups. First, make a reservation. Visit the Illini Union's RSO Office in Room 284 to make a reservation. When reserving ice time, remember that you'll need to supply a list of participants. You'll also need to arrange for an instructor to visit the rink to answer questions during the rental period.
Center Ice Cafe
The University of Illinois Ice Arena's Center Ice Cafe is open to the public. The cafe is adjacent to the Customer Service Office. It serves food and beverages. The Ice Arena Pro Shop stocks a variety of skating and hockey accessories.
Free skate trainers
Champaign's University of Illinois Ice Arena is a rink. It is owned by University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Throughout the year, the ice arena is open to the public free of charge. This rink is open to the public for figure and skateboarding.

Gas leak at UI Ice Arena
Following a leak at its ice rink, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign has sent out an Illini-Alert. The building, which is located at 406 E. Armory Ave. had to be evacuated in precaution after Ameren Illinois crews noticed a gas leak. To prevent contamination, firefighters blocked the sideway leading to the arena. The leak is believed to have originated from beneath the building.
